After over a decade of representing thousands of criminal cases, Moorpark criminal defense lawyer, Douglas Ridley, has the experience necessary to take on any case. As a former Ventura County Deputy District Attorney, Attorney Ridley not only learned how the other side of the legal system works, but how to prepare against the prosecution’s tactics. With his knowledge of California State laws, procedures and statutes, he knows how to put together a defense that is both succinct and direct.

In 1887, the former secretary of the Simi Land Company, Robert Poindexter, was given the title of a plot of land. Founded in 1900, the town already had a train depot and was applying for a post office. It was given the name Moorpark, after a type of apricot that grew in the region. He took the time to plan out the streets in what is now historic “Old Town” and lined them with Pepper trees. It was also the first city in the U.S. to operate off of nuclear power.
Home to Moorpark College and other schools, dozens of parks, friendly neighborhoods and beautiful landscape, the city is a great place to raise a family. Safer than 67.2% of other cities throughout the country, the chance of being a victim of crime is one out of every 89 people. Compared to California, Moorpark is safer than 89% of the other cities throughout the state. Police are on patrol at all times, every day of the week, with additional officers watching the streets during peak hours from 11am to 3am. There is a “zero tolerance” policy towards gang crime in Moorpark and law enforcement has special divisions dedicated just to detecting and investigating gang activity.
While it is great to live in a city with so much protection, there are downsides. Many times the law officers in Moorpark are intent on catching and prosecuting anyone who has committed a crime. They want to keep the city streets safe and deter others from pursuing criminal activity under their watch. This can easily lead to misjudgments and false accusations towards innocent people. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time could end up costing someone their freedom.
At Ridley Defense, our compassionate legal advocate knows that this is a distinct possibility. He is also aware that sometimes even legitimate charges can get blown out of proportion, resulting in harsh consequences for a minimal offense. Utilizing his experience as a former prosecutor, he is able to know what elements of your case to investigate first. From there he will strive to find witnesses and evidence to back up your side of the story. In the past he has successfully obtained rehab instead of jail time for a theft offense and gotten other charges reduced or dismissed entirely.
When it comes to criminal offenses, we know that you have the option of representing your own case; however, we strongly suggest that you do not attempt to do so. Many people are wary of attorney fees and so they do not even consider hiring a lawyer. The major problem with this is that most people do not have a clue of what the state’s laws entail or how the legal system works. It makes it difficult to represent their own case if they do not know what the prosecution is looking for and how to present themselves before a judge. This could result in a detrimental case verdict, potentially costing thousands in fines, jail time and probation.
By hiring a qualified Moorpark criminal defense lawyer who truly cares about you, your case and the overall outcome, you can breathe easier.
