Former Felony Public Defender
Attorney Claire Charbonneau is a former public defender who quickly advanced through the public defense ranks to the felony division. Claire is known to be compassionate and fierce in fighting for her clients, and is experienced with a wide range of cases from simple misdemeanors through serious felonies and strike offenses.

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Arts – Western Washington University
  • Juris Doctorate – Seattle University School of Law

Strong Communicator

Claire spent her undergraduate focusing on public speaking, and was selected as her class speaker at Seattle University School of Law. With that solid background, she listens with intention to understand her clients and their needs, and is able to communicate the story of who they truly are to the court and her peers. Claire knows that people are not defined by the lowlights of their life, and is passionate about fostering understanding for her clients and showing who they truly are when telling their stories. These communication skills also enable her to develop relationships that allow her to negotiate the best results possible for her clients.

Claire is licensed to practice in Washington State and is happy to assist Spanish-speaking clients.

Highlights

In her work as a public defender, Claire handled a multitude of DUI and other misdemeanor cases through trial, and spent most of her career negotiating and trying high level felony cases. Claire never shies away from a challenging case, and loves to help an underdog win. Claire is very understanding of the struggles that come along with suffering from addiction and mental health disorders, and has helped many of her clients work through the difficulties that their situation has put them into.  Claire considers her time working in underserved communities and as the attorney for the Island County Adult Drug Court program as the most rewarding time of her career.
