COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Causes Court Closures and Changes

Written by: Doug Ridley

To our clients, friends, and entire community:

COVID-19 (aka Coronavirus) is changing our lives globally and right here at home. The Presiding Judge of the Ventura County Superior Court, Patricia M. Murphy, issued an administrative order yesterday to close the courts entirely from Monday, March 16th to Wednesday, March 18th. There will be a "skeleton crew" of emergency operations re-opened on March 19th, while all other courts remain closed for up to an additional 30 days. Emergency operations from March 19th forward will provide vital services such as arraignments, emergency restraining orders and other essential court duties. To read the official statement and get more detailed information check out our Facebook page or the Ventura Court Website.

If you're an existing Ridley Defense client, friend or the loved one of somebody with a court proceeding in progress in Ventura County, this will mean that any court dates coming up on Monday through Wednesday will definitely be postponed. Future dates may also be postponed. We will keep you up to date via email on major changes and reach out via phone/text/email to discuss your case on an individual basis. We have already reached out to all clients that have appearances that were scheduled for Monday the 16th through Wednesday the 18th.

Los Angeles and Santa Barbara Courts have changed their policies to allow anyone feeling ill or experiencing any symptoms to stay away from courthouses (in some circumstances) while they await further instructions from higher powers like the Governor. You can read their official statements on the LA Court Website and Santa Barbara Court Website respectively.

If you're an existing Ridley Defense client, friend or the loved one of somebody with a court proceeding in progress in one of these two courts than we will be reaching out individually via phone/text/email to confirm or reschedule your upcoming court appearance.

If any of our clients, friends, fellow professionals or community members have ANY questions during these uncertain times please reach out via email, phone, text or direct Facebook message. We look forward to answering the call with any and all guidance and assistance that we may provide.

FYI - Ridley Defense remains open for business at full capacity during these times and virtually all emergency circumstances.

Please stay safe and take this moment to appreciate extra time spent with those that mean the most in your life.

Very truly yours,

Doug Ridley
