Every year on holidays like New Year’s Eve, I get a flood of calls from good people like you and your friends who get in trouble on that night of the year. Here are three tips to help you get through the night:
- Just don’t drive. There’s no reason for it. Take Uber or a taxi or splurge and get a town car. It takes all the pressure off your “designated driver” and makes sure that no one is on the hook for a DUI.
- If you get pulled over: BE NICE. Your attitude will have the biggest impact on how you spend the rest of your evening. Law enforcement will be on high alert and they are just trying to keep you safe.
- If you are under arrest for a DUI, you HAVE to take a breath or a blood test. If you don’t take a breath or a blood test once you are under arrest, then you will lose your license for a year, even if you are innocent of a DUI. And then they will get a warrant and forcibly take your blood anyway.
There are no special tips I can give you to help you “beat” a DUI. There is no magic formula that works in every situation. The best advice I can give you is to strongly consider not driving at all. It makes for a much better evening for everyone!
And if you do have trouble, I will be there for you. Feel free to give the office a call any time.
